A coerced confession is an involuntary confession that comes from a defendant because of police misconduct in which the confession was not a product of the defendant’s free will. The police manipulate the defendant by psychological abuse and intimidation in order to receive a coerced confession. Your due process rights are violated if the police get a coerced confession from you. A coerced confession will not be admissible in court even if it is true. The court will look at the totality of the circumstances to determine if the confession was coerced.
